I've had the jacket for 6 months now and no problems with the Atom. I bought it specifically for backpacking... something very lightweight, packable, breathable, and warm. I wore it for the Wonderland trail, I didn't bring a shell, just this. It rained the majority of the time while backpacking, but I stayed warm but more importantly, dry! No wear marks, everyone else was putting or taking off layers, but i was well regulated. sometimes a stiff breeze can cut through the mesh, but nothing to complain about. I looked an some of the Marmot down jackets but ultimately went with this one, and I'm glad I did.If I were to do it again, I'd get one with a hood. I wanted a light, compressable jacket that had some rain and wind resistance and was warm; I was asking a lot from a light jacket. The Atom LT delivered everything! With its Coreloft insulation, the Atom LT is VERY warm, has great water and wind resistance and can wad up into a small package. I live in North Idaho and for the last several weeks this is essentially the only jacket I have worn. Worn over a short sleeve t-shirt/button shirt with an under armor long sleeve shirt as a base layer, the Atom LT is warm with the temps in the low/mid 20's.Because the Atom LT is so compressable and is not bulky, it make a great layer under a heavier jacket as well. The couple of times I had to wear an additional outerware jacket becasue of heavy snow/rain, the Atom LT made a great first layer jacket under my North Face sheel and fleece liner. Highly reccomend. I needed a jacket that I could use in a wide temperature range. This jacket fits the bill. It is extremely light to carry and compresses very well for packing. I use it as a mid layer in very cold or rainy conditions and as a stand alone garment in more temperate climates. The jacket is incredibly comfortable and has a great casual look. I have not worn it as an outer layer during a rain yet, but the folks at the outdoor store swear that its coating repels water just fine for brief periods of time (ie casual wear). My only concern is the long-term durability of the outer shell. |
